The Weeknd posted as a digital avatar a new song and played his After hours hits during TikTok’s “The Weeknd Experience” Friday, the “first interactive augmented reality broadcast of the Trump-focused app.”
The 20-minute performance included virtual versions of “Pray for Me”, “Blinding Lights”, “Save Your Tears”, the remix of “In Your Eyes”, complete with a comeo of Doja Cat as her cat avatar and, by mark the seven-minute, a minute-long piece of an unreleased song.
In ‘The Weeknd Experience’, Abel Tesfaye’s avatar – dressed in his Aafter Hours persona – started in a neon dream world when TikTok users interacted in the comments integrated into the action.
The Weeknd also used the show to raise money for the Equal Justice Initiative, with TikTok matching donations that fans made in the app before the show aired. Proceeds for exclusive markets for the concert will also go to charity.
