The SeaWorld and Busch Gardens theme parks will continue this year with changing Halloween and Christmas events, even as it shifts its line-up of new roller coasters to 2021, the company’s interim CEO said today.
“We know how much these are loved by our guests, and we are confident that we will deliver compelling, exciting, and most important safe events with relevant and appropriate operational changes,” MarcWans of SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc. said of the company’s fall and winter event plans during a conference call from an investor today. “More details will come as we finalize these plans.”
Rivals Universal and Cedar Fair have canceled their major Halloween events for the year, including Halloween Horror Nights and Knott’s Scary Farm. Six Flags has not explicitly canceled its Fright Fest and Holiday in the Park events, but said it will review those at a park-based park.
Swanson also said the company will not open its water parks in Williamsburg and San Diego by 2020. SeaWorld San Diego will remain closed indefinitely because the state of California has not yet approved theme parks to reopen. The company’s other parks have reopened, although Busch Gardens Williamsburg only hosts special events with very limited capacity.
Looking ahead to 2021, Swanson said the company will rely on its planned new coaster line-up for 2020 to help drive participation in the new year.
“We felt this would be our best lineup of new attractions in our history. And so many of these will now be transported next year: Iron Gwazi, the coaster in Tampa; Icebreaker, the coaster here in Orlando: Pantheon in Williamsburg; Emperor, [the] coaster in San Diego. We feel really good about the 2021 lineup of rides coming to the parks, so we are excited to continue making progress toward that. “
Swanson said the company may look forward to using some of the money it has borrowed to raise additional capital.
“There may be situations where market development is like competitors in the sector who can’t handle the storm. So whether it’s a water park, a hotel, or something like a park we can view and convert to a Sesame place example, those are the kinds of things we talk about. “
As previously announced, SeaWorld Entertainment reported a loss of $ 131 million for the three months ending June 28, 2020 on revenue of $ 18 million and the presence of just 300,000 guests, as a result of which its parks were closed for most of the quarter due to the pandemic.
