Amazon will allow employees to work from home until June 2021, CNBC confirmed Tuesday.

“We continue to prioritize the health of our employees and follow local government guidelines,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement. “Employees with work that can be done effectively from home can continue to work from home until June 30, 2021.”

News of extended work from Home Policy was first received by Bloomberg.

Amazon follows in the footsteps of many tech companies that have expanded their work with a home policy, at least until early 2021, including HomePal, Facebook and Uber. Twitter has allowed employees to work from home “forever” if they wish.

The move pushes the timeline for Amazon’s corporate employees, who have been working from home since March, to return to work. The company had earlier said employees could work from home until January.

Amazon’s fulfillment operations during the epidemic function as an essential business, requiring warehouse employees and delivery drivers to report to work. The topic has been a source of controversy for Amazon, as lawmakers and labor groups have criticized the treatment with the company’s frontline employees amid the coronavirus crisis.

As of Tuesday, U.S. More than 8.2 million cases of coronavirus have been reported in and at least 220,649 people have died, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
