The Witcher becomes a mobile, Pokemon Go-style RPG

The Witcher is a series of books, video games, en television shows about a prematurely aging mutant man living in a dangerous world full of alien, cruel monsters and ruled by nefarious politicians. Although of course there are very few differences between the fictional landscape and our own, a new, Pokémon Go-style game called The Witcher: Monster Slayer comes out anyway.

De first trailer in front of Monster Slayer shows a man running through a bunch of lime on his phone. Ominous sounds come from afar and his dog barks. Is it another human being potentially coming within six feet of him? No! He looks at his screen to see what appears much less frightening: An augmented reality creature with giant claws and a heart skull roaring around his blood.

In another commercial, we see more of the game being played. As well as Go there, Monster Slayer is about running around with your phone to detect all sorts of annoying clutter. Once discovered, the official site says these monsters are being fought in “first-person, RPG-inspired combat” that takes real weather and time of day into consideration.

While now may not be the best time to encourage amateur witches to kick off their weeks and try to find monsters to fight, we can hope the game is released at a time when it’s a bit safer to go outside, causing players to worry more about throwing giant fantasy bugs apart than possibly spreading the real ones around. There is no other release date than “soon” for Monster Slayer still, but it will be free to play and get on iOS and Android when it comes out.
