A new game based on AMCs The walking Dead now has a release date The Walking Dead Onslaught scheduled to arrive on PlayStaiton VR, Oculus, and SteamVR devices on September 29th. The new virtual reality game is in fact a VR-only title, so you will need a VR setup if you want to play. This VR perspective will place players right next to the zombies they will encounter with a new gameplay trailer to be released next to the release date, showing more of what that experience will look like.
Developer Survios announced the release date of The Walking Dead Onslaught after he previously posted that there would be some big news on Thursday. IGN shared the gameplay trailer below to watch the VR experience of walkers right up in your face while trying to survive alongside some of the most popular characters from the franchise.

The official VR game from AMCs The walking Dead, The Walking Dead Onslaught “invites players to take on the roles of their favorite survivors from the TV series, and fight the haunting walking threat while confronting both the horrors and humanity of this apocalyptic new world,” Survios said of the game.
As evidenced by the brief scenes of the combat we get from the trailer, the combat of these zombies consists of a mix of attacks of ranges and melee. An overview of the game’s features shared previously highlighted things like going down, which means you can rescue a zombie from its limbs if your hits are accurate. Survios highlighted other parts of the “visceral combat experience” such as picking up enemies, making realistic wounds as you hit them, and a physics system in place that responds to players’ movements as they grab and hit enemies. You can even grab the zombies yourself and throw them around or limit them for a while to better align your attack.
Those who have kept them The Walking Dead’s spinoffs and video game adaptations will return that this is not the only VR game in the franchise we have seen. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners was released earlier in the year and was met with mostly positive reviews praising the immersion and controls over the offered game. Hopefully The Walking Dead Onslaught will be able to remake some of the same successes as it is the franchise’s official VR game.
The Walking Dead Onslaught is scheduled to release on September 29th.
