WARSAW – Poland’s biggest-ever World War Two bomb exploded underwater on Tuesday as naval divers tried to thwart it.

More than 750 people were evacuated from the area near the Pist Canal outside the town of Swinojsi when a tailboy bomb used by Britain’s Royal Air Force (RAF) was found. It weighs about 12,000 pounds, of which about 5,300 pounds is explosive.

“The deflation process has turned into detonation,” said Second-Lieutenant Grzerz Lewandowski, a spokesman for the state-run news agency Maa Coastal Defense Flotilla. This substance can be considered as neutral, there will be no more danger than that. “P.A.P.

“All mine divers were out of danger zone.”

Svinojsky has a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, but a spokesman for the town’s mayor told WP that no one was injured and no infrastructure was damaged.

The Pistachio Canal connects Poland with the Der Der River on the Polish border with Germany. The bomb was dropped by the RAF in an attack on the German cruiser Lutzo in 1945.
