The UN’s World Food Program wins the Nobel Peace Prize

OSLO (AP) – David Beasley, head of the UN World Food Program, told the Associated Press that his organization had become speechless by awarding the Nobel Peace Prize.

“I think this is the first time in my life that I have been without words. I was just shocked and amazed, “Beasley said after the APA broke the news to Niger on Friday.

This is a brand new update. The previous story of AP is given below.

OSLO (AP) – The United Nations World Food Program on Friday won the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to combat hunger and food insecurity around the world.

The announcement was made by Barrett Rees-Anderson, chairman of the Nobel Committee in Oslo.

The Nobel Committee said the coronavirus epidemic has increased the hunger of millions of people around the world and called on governments to get the financial support needed by the WFP and other aid agencies to feed them.

“With this year’s award, the (committee) wants to turn the world’s attention to the millions of people who suffer or face the threat of hunger,” Reese-Andersen said. “The World Food Program plays a key role in multilateral cooperation in making food security a tool of peace.”

“The World Food Program contributes every day to advancing the comrades of the nations mentioned in Alfred Nobel’s will,” he said.

There was no shortage of reasons or candidates in this year’s list, with 211 individuals and 107 organizations nominated before the February 1 deadline.

However, the Norwegian Nobel Committee maintains full credibility as to whose favor it is for the world’s most prestigious prize.

The award will be presented at a ceremony in Oslo, Norway on December 10, with a cash prize of 10 million kroner (1 1.1 million) and a gold medal. This year’s event will be reduced due to the epidemic.

On Monday, the Nobel Committee awarded the prize for physiology and medicine for the discovery of the liver-raving hepatitis C virus. Tuesday’s prize for physics honors advances in understanding the mysteries of cosmic black holes, and Wednesday’s prize for chemistry went to the scientists behind the powerful gene-editing tool. On Thursday, American poet Louis Glocken was awarded the Literature Prize for his “sincere and uncontrollable” work.

The prize for outstanding performance in the field of economics is yet to come.
