The total number of COVID-19 cases in Iowa has exceeded 255,000

DES MOINS, Iowa (KCRG) – The total number of Iowans hospitalized due to the novel coronavirus is slowly declining, according to state figures Saturday.

As of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the Iowa Department of Public Health said the state had recorded a total of 255,009 since the outbreak began. 187,463 people in Iowa are now considered healthy from the disease.

More than 15 people have been killed in the Covid-19. The state’s total death toll is 2.3.

820 people have been hospitalized due to Covid-19, a net drop of 13 since Friday morning’s report. Of these, 170 patients are in intensive care units, with fewer than five. Of these, 94 patients were required to use a ventilator, a net reduction of three. In the last 24 hours, 170 people were newly admitted to Iowa hospitals with the disease, the lowest number of new patients since November 3.

An additional 5,281 people gave test results by public and private labs in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate of this batch of tests was .4.4..4%. The rate of positivity using this method may differ from the number on the state’s coronavirus dashboard, due to the fact that the state only releases the number of individuals testing positive or negative for the first time, including the total number of people tested not more than once.

A total of 1,278,945 people have been tested in Iowa since the epidemic began.
