The show, which is called Netflix’s response to the X-Men, crushes it – BGR

  • Our list of the most-watched TV shows this week of the major streaming services runs the gamut, including a variety of shows from platforms like Netflix, but also newer rivals like Peacock and Apple TV +.
  • At the top of this week’s list is The Umbrella Academy, an original Netflix series about a group of superheroes described as Netflix’s response to the X-Men franchise.
  • Season two of The Umbrella Academy debuted on Netflix in late July.

As I write these words, original series from Netflix The Umbrella Academy – which has been referred to on many occasions as the streamer’s response to the X-Men franchise – ranks # 2 on Netflix’s current in-house ranking of the Top 10 TV -see about the platform. But that’s after the show, which was adapted from a comic strip by Gerard Way and tells the story of a family of superhero siblings, could force an admirable performance after the debut of their second season on July 31st.

As noted by Forbes, The Umbrella Academy became the third Netflix series for 14 days the no. 1st place on that list. And in fact, it still does – although in the rankings of third-party most-watched TV shows currently from sources like Reelgood, the destination for streaming search engines it has shared with BGR the last look at which streaming audience consumes the most from now on. For the week of August 13-19 The Umbrella Academy as no. 1 with a bullet, at a time when these rankings are becoming more competitive than ever as streamers and networks, ranging from HBO to Peacock and Apple TV + are removing more and more popular shows that climb these lists.

From Netflix’s official description of what’s happening in season 2 of The Umbrella Academy: The heroes “must find a way to reunite, find out what caused doomsday, make a stop and go back to the current timeline to stop it other apocalypse. All this while I am being hunted by a trio of sympathetic Swedish murderers. Currently, the series enjoys a solid 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as an 82% critical score.

As for the rest of this week’s list of the Top 10 most watched TV shows of the various streaming services, it should be noted that Netflix’s rivals are getting much more serious about their participation in the so-called Streaming Wars. Apple TV +, for example, topped the list this week, something it has not done so much for due to the fact that it does not have a deep library of content as rival streamers, by design (check out our interview with Bill Lawrence, maker of the new Apple TV + show Ted Lasso, over here). HBOs Lovecraft Country, Yellowstone on Peacock – there are so many other great shows to enjoy this week as well.

Again, per Reelgood, these were the most streamed for August 13-19:

  1. The Umbrella Academy
  2. The boys
  3. Yellowstone
  4. Dark
  5. Rick and Morty
  6. Fargo
  7. Kingdom
  8. Lovecraft Country
  9. Ted Lasso
  10. Good girls
