The Royals announced the extension of their four-year contract with Catcher Salvador Perez This afternoon. The contract also includes the club’s option for a fifth season, reports Athletic’s Alec Lewis, who has a complete breach of the terms.Via Twitter). Perez will make 18mm in 2022, 20mm in 2023 and 2024 and 22mm in 2025. The 2026 club option is priced at .5 13.5mm and it comes with a 2mm buyout, with the possibility of a total guarantee of 82mm MM. Earn maximum at 93.5mm if option is used. Kansas City star Lynn Worthy first reported an average annual value of MM 20.5mm for the deal. (Twitter link). Previously set for free agency at the end of the year, Perez will now be in Kansas City for the next half-decade. The 30-year-old (May 31) is the face of the franchise, having spent his entire professional career at the Royals organization. A workhorse behind the plate and a tool for the Kansas City back-to-back pennant winners and the 2015 World Series team, Perez now has a shot of spending his entire career with the franchise. This extension lasts until his age-35 season.
If he plays his entire career in Kansas City, Perez will follow Alex Gordon Career long as Royals. Gordon’s four-year, 2016, એમ 72mm deal was previously the largest investment in the Royals’ franchise history. Perez’s extension makes the biggest deal in franchise history.
No doubt the backstop’s standing price with the organization played a role in this expansion, but Perez just didn’t get paid for our talk.
