welcome to The ringerNBA Restart Odds, which will be updated every night until the end of the 2019-20 postseason to help fans navigate the unprecedented playoff structure. Based on team strength as measured by point differential, a historically strong predictor of future success, with adjustments for individual wrinkles such as player absences and injuries, restart odds include three main characteristics: single-game odds for each day’s games, game odds for teams struggling to qualify for the postseason, and future playoff odds for all 22 teams in Orlando through the championship round. If the team that finishes does not. 8 in the ranking of each conference is more than four games before no. 9, automatically qualify for the group of 16 teams. If the two teams are within four games of each other, they enter a game period in which the no. 8 seeds need to win a game to advance, while no. 9 seeds need to win twice.
