Ar tu, energy rja, enthusiastically play each other over each other in a physical brand of defense that gives the Packers a new standard as the season draws to a close.
On the offense, the standard for the most part has been very high, but there is another option in the running game, at least, interesting.
Rookie back AJ Dill introduced himself to the NFL world with a 21-carry, 124-yard, two-TD performance from the sidelines due to a quad injury with Jamal Williams. The second-round draft pick of 247 pounds looked like it was meant to run in the December snow in the Lambeau area.
Meanwhile, Aaron Jones went over 1,000 rushing yards for a second straight season – the first Packers to return to do so after Eddie Lacey in 2013-14 – and the injury to Williams is not expected to be long-term.
There is only one footbal at a time, but right now Laffler appreciates the plug-and-play aspect of taking root with a ground game. While certain backs can play certain effective plays more effectively, the bulk plan does not change when ball carriers are sub and in.
“Just believing we can’t worry about who’s in the back position is a big time,” La Fleur said. “There’s someone to be able to get there that you can and can’t change your thoughts… you can just attack. It’s a great luxury.”
