The new Philips Hue LightStrip mounts on your TV and syncs with what’s not-screen

A new Philips Hue Lightstrip is on the way, and this one is to be mounted on the back of your TV where it can flash and glow with whatever non-screen. The Hue line already has a number of lightstrips, but this new one – called the Philips Hugh Play Gradient Lightstrip – can display different colors in different parts of the strip, while the old colors were limited to one color. It allows a more immersive effect when mounted on your TV.

However, you will need to purchase some extra gear to operate this lightstrip. If you want to use it on your TV, you need the Bridge 60 Hue Bridge and the 0 230 Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box, or if you want to use it on a computer monitor. The mounting pieces are included in the box.

Signify, which makes up the Hue system, moving forward with lighting that has been associated with entertainment for years. The idea is to make movies, TV shows, and video games more immersive by keeping lighting in and around the room that mirrors what is happening. I’ve only seen a technically limited test: it certainly works, but my initial impression was that it could be distracted if the lights changed too quickly.

Grad Lightstrip will be available to fit 55 to 85 inch TVs and sell for 200 200 to 0 240. It will go on sale in the US on October 16th.

In addition to the new Lightstrip, Signify is announcing some other new products and updates today. The Philips Hugh Iris – a lamp to illuminate a nearby wall – is being updated with richer colors, brighter output and a new finish. It will sell for 100, although the new metal will cost more to complete. Both the white and color versions of the Hue E12 Candelabra bulb are also being updated with Bluetooth. The updated iris will go on sale on October 19, while the updated bulbs are available immediately.
