You can, but for me the rules have changed. I ran there with three films in a row which were “Out of Sight”, “Three Kings” and “O Brother, Where Art You Are.” If any of that screenplay came to me with a piece I could play, I would do it, but that screenplay is rarely seen. I’m not bored with acting, I’m more concerned with the idea that I know for a fact how a career goes, because I’ve seen it: my aunt Rosemary was a great singer and then she wasn’t. Things change, I know. I have no interest in saying goodbye, but you have to evaluate what you can do.
Have you considered working with some new director instead of the established ones?
I’ve seen some movies where I go, “Oh, that’s really interesting, smart filmmaking,” but you also have to get to know the director a little bit. I want them to know that they like what they do and they don’t [jerks].
Because you had experience before?
Well, I’ve had that experience many times, and I had to say, “Life is too short.” We should do something that I know most people like to do for a living, so you should celebrate that. I remember the young movie stars listening to how hard their lives were, and I was cutting tobacco for a living! I was like, “I want you to tell me how Great That’s it. ”I want to work with people who love what they do.
Paul Yes Newman going, “Yes, it’s fun!” The last few years of his life, we became friends, and he really felt like he loved what he did just for a living. They were friends with Gregory Pack and they never disappointed in real life that they were as movie stars.
I don’t want people who are screaming and screaming and angry at the world. Once, it was like I was at a director’s round table with the directors: “I’ll break the cast. I’ll take 40 minutes until they have nothing.” I looked at him as an actor, and I was like this, “Man, I’ll never work with you.”
Joel Schumacher died earlier this year. He directed you in “Batman and Robin”. What is the best story you can tell from that set?
