The Masters will look so expensive without fans this year

The Masters is easily, without a doubt, my favorite sporting event that exists on our planet. I’m a golfer and Masters Week fills me with as much content as possible, including millions of hours of pre- and post-round coverage by Golf Channel.

When the week is over, I’m devastated and I’m counting down the days before it’s going to be Masters Week again.

This year has been different, apparently because the Masters did not happen in April and is now scheduled for November. On Wednesday, we learned that fans (as patrons) will not be allowed on the field during the tournament, as we continue to live in a sports world without fans in the stands, as we fight a global pandemic.

And do you know what? I can not wait to see Augusta National in all its glory with not seeing a fan. It will be so darn beautiful. It will be like stepping into an old church with no one else. Or running in an In-N-Out Burger without a line.

I get guozebumps just thinking.

Sports with no fans has been a lot better than I had expected it to be. Last weekend’s PGA Championship lacked intensity, with no fans on the field. The NHL and NBA bubbles have missed nothing with their broadcasts. And I expect the Masters to be even better than all those things combined. Are sports better with fans? Yeah right. But this experience without fans is not so bad!

Augusta National is probably the most unique country in golf. We will be able to see it all in its natural beauty without a bunch of people in freight shorts lying the fairways and sitting around the greens.

Will we miss some noise when big moments happen? Maybe. But I’m more than happy to have a year without those to have a whole new experience of watching the biggest sporting event in the world.

The only thing that could make this tournament even better this year will be Tiger Woods struggling against the back nine, pulling on glue and shoving on pins.

Oh. My. God.

I’m so excited.

NBA players will allow guests to have guests after the first round of the playoffs and Twitter had a lot of jokes.
