CNN of the Indian Ministry of Health India recorded 275 deaths due to coronavirus on Wednesday, the highest number of deaths in a single day since December 31.

The country also recorded 47,262 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday, the highest one-day increase since November 12, with a total of 11,734,058 cases reported, including 160,441 deaths.

This comes a year after the country’s first nationwide Covid-11 lockdown was imposed, after India forced 1.3 billion people inside its homes.

New rules: The Home Ministry (MHA) on Tuesday released new Covid-19 control guidelines by the end of April “in light of new cases reported in some parts of the country”.

According to the Ministry of Health, more than 35,000 new cases are reported in India every day for seven consecutive days, according to CNN. The increase follows a “steady decline in the number of active cases for about 5 months” as ordered by the MHA.

Some of the steps outlined in Tuesday’s order include quickly isolating positive cases and tracing contacts of covid-positive patients within 72 hours.

Maharashtra, Punjab, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu accounted for 81% of the new cases registered in the last 24 hours, according to the health ministry on Tuesday. Parts of many of these states have imposed full or partial lockdowns and night curfews to end the spread of the virus.

India has distributed more than 50 million vaccine doses since January 16 when it started vaccinating healthcare and frontline workers, as well as children over 60 or over 45. From April 1, everyone 45 years of age or older will be included in the rollout, according to the health ministry.
