The Kremlin’s Third World War propaganda meltdown shows Putin is cornered

MOSCOW – Russia seems awful these days for Americans, who often hear of election interference and poisoning in other bad deeds. But consider the other side of the divide for a moment, or at least consider the scenario presented to the Russians by their television sets.

The prospect of a third world war has become a regular topic on Russian state propaganda shows. Late night after night, Vladimir Soloviv, often described as the Kremlin’s top propagandist, and his guests condemn the West’s strategy of imposing sanctions on “economic suffocation” and suggest war is the logical consequence.

The conclusion reached by Soloviv and his guests is that the country’s politicians and business titans should sever all ties with the West, including communicating with their relatives. The long history of complaints went out; Soloviv says the conflict between Russia and the West began in the 13thM Century: “They believe we are uncivilized and they are civilized, so they have the right to point out how we should live and behave.”
