A New York journalist fell in love with the infamous “Pharma Brow” Martin Shakreli and gave him a “perfect” life for her – quit her job and divorced her husband, a new report has revealed.
Christie Smith, 38, a former Bloomberg News reporter, opened up about her relationship with the convicted thug for the first time in an Elle magazine article published Sunday.
Smith told his 37-year-old romance with Shakreli, who is serving a seven-year sentence for scamming investors in hedge funds – Smith told his 37-year-old romance with Shakreli.
“I am just happy to be here. I think that’s my purpose.
But their love story may not end in joy. Smith has not seen his bio in a year due to the COVID-19 safety protocol in prisons.
Now working remotely to start journalism from his Harlem basement apartment part, Smith promised to wait for Shakreli.
“I’ll try,” he said. “I’ll be here.”
The Kansas City, Missouri native first crossed the road with Shakreli in 2015 when he learned he was under federal investigation for violating securities laws.
At the time, Smith was married and had a “perfect little Brooklyn life.”
She described her growing involvement with Shakreli over the next few years as “incremental decisions, wherever you are, slowly pushing yourself to the brink of death in the bathtub.”
Srikreli made himself the “most hated man in the world” moniker for raising the price of the AIDS drug Daraprim by about 5,000 per cent in August 2015 and was convicted of securities fraud in 2017 after a head-catching trial.
Until Smith divorced her husband, she spent months visiting Shakrely’s prison, even getting a license so she could drive to see him after he was moved to a Pennsylvania prison.
In the summer of 2018, Smith left Bloomberg about her engagement to Shukreli. Immediately, the prison visitor’s room smelled like chicken wings, “I told Martin I love him,” he reminded Ellen.
“He told me he loved me too,” Smith said, and the two kissed.
She added: “It’s hard to think of a time when I’m happy.”
The pair have discussed their children’s names and prenups, and Smith said she also freezes her eggs out of fear, as the children will be born by the time she leaves her “life partner”.
Her current husband warned that Shakreli was “just using” her and that “sucking into this bad guy” endangered her journalistic reputation.
Smith also admitted: “Maybe someone was manipulating me.”
Public hatred of Shakreli is well documented. About 134 potential jurors were excluded from his trial because they described him as “evil” in various ways, saying “it looks like advertising.” “
He was also known for pursuing female journalists who covered the hearing, including buying a URL in the name of two people, including a post reporter, and offering to sell the domains for 000 12,000.
Bully Pharma Executive once said that, if acquitted, he would “f – k” a freelance writer who stopped his progress.
But Smith defended his behavior against Smith, saying “he trolls because he’s restless… really, he really wants to be somebody.”
In April, Shikreli called for an early release from prison due to the coronavirus, and her lawyers revealed she had a fianc, requesting that she work on a possible COVID-19 remedy pending the sentence in her Manhattan apartment apartment.
Although she was described by her attorneys as Shakreli’s bride-to-be, Smith said they are indeed “partners.”
However, it seems that Smith may have poured cold water on his romance while talking about a love connection.
She read out a statement to Elle: “Mr. Shakreli wishes Ms. Smith all the best in her future endeavors. ”
Hearing her parted words, Smith – who has sold the film’s rights to a book proposal about Shakreli – calmly said, “It’s sweet,” Meg reported.
“He is saying, you are going to live your life and we are not together. That I might take my book and it would be a thorn in our side, ”Smith continued.
