We already know a lot about the four iPhone 12 models that the Apple Paul will unveil on October 13th, but there are always some surprises that weren’t leaked before the big day. As unlikely as possible, we hope one of the surprises comes out of this concept similar to the one that turns the iPhone 12 into a magic mouse.
Unfortunately, this is not the actual product that has been leaked. Instead, this is a concept of Yankee design, a glimpse of what it would be like if Apple decided to think a little more outside of PlayStation and integrate the iPhone and Max completely differently.
The concept envisions something called the Magic Mouse Mini, a state-of-the-art pop socket complete with an optical sensor that sticks to the back of your iPhone. Once in place it means you can move your iPhone like a normal computer mouse. Very clever, right?
The pop-up pop-socket with ical optical sensor turns your iPhone into a magic mouse! – It’s a great idea in theory, and integrates well with Apple’s ecosystem of creating products that support each other and add to the collective experience. It’s also something fresh that will set Apple apart in the hardware space. Meet the Magic Mouse Mini, a concept created by @yongbinski who also fitted an optical sensor and gave the final upgrade to the smartphone pop-socket! – Magic Mouse Mini looks and feels like your regular pop-socket. It attaches to the back of your phone, giving you a pop-out grip that you can hold firmly between your index and middle finger as you use your phone or click selfies. Given how big and slippery smartphones are nowadays (more factoring in the curved edge of the iPhone). However, the side switch turns the pop-out grip into something more functional. Turning your iPhone into a magical mouse, switch the device above and the optical sensor above the power of the Apple Pul logo! – Works to mimic the magic mouse experience behind the iPhone and socket. The optical sensor on the socket helps with cursor-tracking, while the iPhone’s touchscreen has the responsibility of providing a control surface, allowing you to make left-click, right-click, pinch, zoom, scroll and a variety of gestures, just like you do with Magic. Would be on the mouse. – I keep in mind the Magic Mouse Mini concept that will work significantly with iMacs and MBQbooks, but will probably work well with iPads too! It’s a small, clever on-dun that helps your phone (allowing you to grip better), and also helps your OS KOS devices, without having to pay a hundred bucks for a new Magic Mouse, giving you a magical mouse experience. And yes, the presence of a socket on the back of your phone can give it an uneven surface, the mouse could potentially turn back when you’re using it … but think less of this as a matter of practicality and usability, and the existing piece of hardware (your iPhone). More as a clever way to turn something into something brand new! After all, it’s just a concept, isn’t it? – Designer: Yongbin Kim Yanko Design

In addition, the iPhone itself takes some functions from the standalone magic mouse, allowing you to use the touchscreen as an interface for all gestures and will be familiar to long-term magic mouse users.
There’s no doubt there will be plenty of new products at the Apple Paul event, including potential AirTags, AirPods Studio and HomePod Mini, but none of this is the way to go. If Apple Paul wanted to develop this concept, there are also potential technical hurdles that need to be overcome before something like this can work in the real world.
So for now, if you want to use your iPhone as a mouse, all you have to do is download one of those lame mouse apps from the App Store. Or stop trying to use your phone for everything and just buy a real magic mouse.
