For anyone who spends much of their time Extremely Online, the discussion tabs in Chrome can be a bit of a pain. While it’s quite frustrating to deal with all the sites you’ve opened in the desktop version of your browser, organizing those tabs on your Android phone or tablet may be out of reach for everyone except the most patient smartphone users.
But it does not have to be like that. A useful new feature in the latest beta version of Chrome will allow you to use icons to navigate through your open tabs instead of having to scroll through your collection of online destinations or, worse, a seemingly endless cavalcade of windows.
Google is currently testing a much cleaner and tidier way to explore the websites it has opened with a toolbar that opens at the bottom of the Chrome app. It is clean, simple and you can start using it right now. Even better? It seems that the way of browsing multiple websites should be, or at least an approximation of it.
Of course, since the feature is part of the Chrome beta app for now, it will take a bit of a solution to set things up. You will need to make sure you have downloaded and installed the first time Chrome Beta from Google Play Store. From there, go to the following URL from the Chrome Beta browser: chrome: // flags / # enable-conditional-tabstrip
You should receive a configuration page with a flag and a radio button for “Conditional Tab Strip” Make sure it is enabled and then restart the Chrome app. If all went well, you will have a new strip of icons at the bottom of your browser.
You may have to wait a bit for the function to appear. Closing the app and restarting it can also make it appear, but there is another method you can use if everything else fails. Return to the chrome: // flags / # enable-conditional-tabstrip URL within your browser. Look for these flags and make sure they are enabled: Tab Groups, Tab Groups UI Enhancements, and Conditional Tab Strip. Once complete, open two new tabs.
Touch the second tab with a “2” badge in the right corner. Drag one tab over the second to create a group of tabs. This will create a substitute tab grouping option that adds a navigation strip at the bottom of your browser. It’s not exactly like what you were going to have with the first trick, but it will nevertheless collect your tabs consistently.
