This month, Civilization VI will release a free game update that adds some fifty new features to the 4X strategy game. Firaxis says some of it is in response to community requests, and you’ll be able to enjoy it, no matter how much of the Civ 6 add – on content you own – or not.
The update goes live August 27, and it includes the new Natural Wonder picker. With this option you can manually select which natural wonders you should appear in your world when you start a new game. There may be some miracles that you have not seen very often, while others that you are not crazy about – here you can select the hand that will (or will not) appear in the world.
Another clean new feature coming to Civilization VI this month is the Tech and Civic Shuffle Mode. With this mode enabled, your technical and civilian research trees will be randomized and hidden – you need to guess what you are researching. As Civilization VI lead designer Anton Strenger explained in the video below, the mode is a call for some of the first 4X games he’s ever played, and it makes things both easier and harder for the same reason: you can not plan ahead.

There are some requested adjustments along with the new features for marquee – Firaxis makes forest and jungle fires last longer, and there are some changes to how government placements work.
Again, you do not have to own the new Civilization VI Frontier Pass or any of the DLC to use these new features; with the Wonder Picker, however, you can only choose from miracles that appear in the content you have.
All will be announced during a community livestream scheduled for 11.00 PDT / 14:00 EDT / 19:00 BST August 26th.
