The group does not currently have any black journalists, including its 87 87-person membership. In fact, Maher Tatna, a former HFPA chairman and board chairman, has not had a black member in the organization since at least 2002 when he joined.

In an interview for DiversityTata addressed the interaction with the heads of four major award organizations – Oscars, Globes, SAG and BAFTA. “As a person of color, it’s important to me,” Tatana says. “It’s just that there is noise, as an organization of immigrants, who write for our homeland, that discovery [for international Black journalists] Not easy, but that doesn’t mean we should give up. We will try, and we will be part of the compromise. ”

At the time, a HFPA spokesman said, “It is a criminal offense to make any allegations against the organization and to claim any race issues.”
