The creators of SteamWorld are trying something new with The Gunk

You might know game developer Image & Form for its various genre experiments, ranging from the wonderful RPG SteamWorld Quest to the tactical puzzle game Steamworld heist. But for its next foray into video games, the Swedish studio is leaving the world of steampunk and robots behind.

Announced during the Xbox Games presentation, The dirt is a new adventure in which players will face frightening enemies and try to solve puzzles that hide an even greater mystery. During the trailer, we see the protagonist absorbing a lot of black substance, which seems to be corrupting wildlife. No release date beyond 2021 was set for the Xbox Series X version of the game, although it seems likely that The dirt It will also be available on other platforms. Xbox One and Windows PC are also confirmed.

Previously, Polygon called Image & Form’s SteamWorld Quest a “must have” Nintendo Switch game. It’s been a while since the developer created a game out of the franchise, so this will be a bit risky, although if recent releases are an indication, we can expect a fine-tuned game.
