On Tuesday, March 23, a huge container ship got stuck in Egypt’s Suez Canal, blocking sea traffic from the world’s busiest waterway.

The Suez Canal Authority said in a statement that the ship, called Ever Given, was surrounded by strong winds and sandstorms. The ship was heading towards the Dutch point of Rotterdam when it crashed off course.

Amp Givan, at 400 meters (1,312 feet), is as tall as the Empire State Building.

According to the Reuters news agency, the Suez Canal accounts for about 30% of global container ship traffic per day. Experts worry that logjam oil could affect the market, shipping and container rates if it is not released sooner than ever, leading to an increase in the price of everyday goods.
