Buckle everyone – and attach that face mask.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued new guidelines on the use of face masks for public transport, urging passengers and workers to wear face masks throughout the journey in the fight against Covid-19.
The CDC shared the update on Monday, advising people traveling by air, sea and land, as well as transport management officers and crew members to wear face masks to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Coronavirus cases 40 million infections worldwide
The public health organization explained, “Traveling on public vehicles increases the risk of getting and spreading COVID-19 by bringing a person into close contact with other people, often for long periods of time, and by bringing them to frequently touching surfaces.”
“Given how most transport systems are interconnected across the country and the world, local transmissions can quickly progress to interstate and international transmissions when infected individuals travel on public resources without wearing masks and with people not wearing masks.”
With that said, the CDC strongly recommends that “all passengers and employees, such as passengers, ships, ferries, trains, subways, buses, taxis, ride-shares, wear all appropriate passengers on public transport. For that, people passing or working in transport centers like “airports, bus or ferry terminals, train stations, ports” are also advised to cover their mouth and nose with a face mask.

The CDC also added that exceptions to the Traveler Face Mask Guide should be made for children under 2, as well as for those who are allowed to wear the mask for medical reasons.
