The Vio is known for making laptops that pack amazing amounts of power into reliable thin form factors. The Vaio Z may be the company’s most ambitious product yet. It includes Intel’s four-core i7-11357H – and at an initial weight of 2.11 pounds, it will be the lightest laptop ever to hold an Intel H-Series processor. (Although the most expensive model you can buy in the US is 32 2.32.)
Part of the reason why the Wii Z is so light is that it is the first laptop to be made of “contoured carbon fiber”. You’ll find carbon fiber in some of the most lightweight laptops on the market, including the Dell XPS line – it’s a tough and lightweight material. But those laptops use sheets of carbon fiber that are held together by metal or plastic parts. The VOA has really introduced the material around the edge of the Z’s chassis, so it’s carbon fiber all around.
Vayo says the device has passed 26 “surface drop” tests, and it will deliver up to 13 hours of battery life. Speaking of other specs, you can get up to 2TB of storage, 32GB of memory, Iris Z integrated graphics and either FHD or 4K 14-inch display. There’s a backlight keyboard, a webcam with a physical shutter, a full-size HDMI port, and two USB-C ports. The chassis is an oyster, although you can fold the screen up to 180 degrees.
Of course, not all of this is cheap. Vayo Z starts – I’m not kidding – 5 3,579. So it may not be a practical purchase for most people, but it is still an impressive achievement and an interesting proof of f-concept. Keep an eye out in a few days for our full review, where we can hop in on the performance where you can expect those prices. You can now preder units on the Wii website.
