That’s the word of the Toronto Blue Jays, who announced a few minutes ago that they reached an agreement to play the majority of their games at home at Sahlen Field, where their Triple-A affiliates, the Buffalo Bisons, normally play. In their statement, set out below, the Jays thank Buffalo City and New York State, suggesting that, unlike their plans for Toronto and Pittsburgh, they now have government approval.

It’s unclear why a “majority” of home games will happen in Buffalo compared to 30, but the Jays tweeted that an updated schedule will be released soon. I can’t help but think that some home games can be turned into road games with the goal of reducing travel, but we’ll know the details soon. TO UPDATE: The Jays’ first series of scheduled homes against the Nationals, July 29-30, will take place in Washington to accommodate infrastructure modifications at Sahlen Field.

Previous suggestions that the team could play in Buffalo were dismissed by Major League Baseball sources who cited that the lighting at Sahlen Field, and at any other minor league stadium, was not up to the standards of the big leagues. Ken Rosenthal tweeted a few minutes ago that the Jays are working on it. Presumably by getting crane-based temporary lighting, which is sometimes seen in college football games in stadiums that were not built with night games in mind.

However, the details work, now we have a “new” major league baseball team: the Buffalo Blue Jays
