Odell Beckham’s blonde hair is back. The Cleveland Browns wide receiver said he comes with a different attitude.
Beckham recently hosted a roundtable on his YouTube channel with Atlanta Falcons running back Todd Gurley; New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton, with whom Beckham has worked this offseason; and former NFL wide receiver Victor Cruz, a former Beckham teammate in the New York Giants. During the hour-long discussion, Cruz asked Beckham about his mindset for next season, after a disappointing injury-ridden debut year with the Browns, which ended in a 6-10 record, following off-surgery. season to repair a sports hernia.
Beckham initially answered the question simply by taking off his hat, revealing the blonde locks he exhibited during his tenure with the Giants but which were noticeably absent in his first season with the Browns.
Cruz and Newton immediately declared, “The blond is back!”
“This is how I feel,” said Beckham. “I’m tired of playing your game. Like Cam and I talked about, that humble s — when you’re inside, we are humble men … but they have taken that humility as a weakness and they S — about us. It’s crazy to me, because when you’re awake and you’re talking, they hate it. And for me this year, I’m trying to kill. Like, that’s it.
“That’s why the blonde is back. There is nothing you can tell me.”
The discussion between the four also covered several other topics, including the Black Lives Matter movement and playing through the coronavirus pandemic. Beckham also admitted to having dealt with “depression and mental health problems” while in New York. He said he even considered retiring after breaking his ankle in 2017.
However, Beckham seems to have left this latest injury behind, as evidenced by a series of exercise videos he has posted on social media and Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, recently saying Beckham is “100 percent” again.
Newton said that when working with him this offseason, Beckham has his arrogance back, even comparing OBJ to Simba in “The Lion King.”
“He was looking at this side, it was like he believed in himself,” Newton said. “And I say, ‘Brother, don’t you know who you are, brother? You have to roar, brother.'”
