Life as we know it has been completely revived over the last six months. From our work life to our daily shopping to our sleep programs, nothing seems like a pre-pandemic. According to a new study, more than a third of people around the world suffer from insomnia and anxiety due to the Covid19 epidemic.

De new report, called Sleep and Mental Health Amid Coronavirus Pandemic in 2020, looked at global sleep patterns, behaviors and mental health issues related to the first months of the pandemic, and retrieved data from a smartphone app called Sleep Cycle. The researchers analyzed 33 million nights of users’ sleep between January and May 2020, and tracked their sleep quality.

In June, the researchers followed with more than 69,000 Sleep Cycle users in 22 countries participated in a survey designed to learn more about how changes in daily routine, mental health and pandemic-related concerns have affected our sleep. To determine what exactly keeps people awake at night, the researchers looked at the respondents’ bedtime, which is the time it takes to fall asleep after going to bed. In conjunction with Rebecca Robbins, PhD, postdoctoral fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, the researchers identified the follows as the top seven reasons that people can not sleep at night.
