The 5G series iPhone 12 could be shipped with this filtered 20W fast charger

The existing 18W charger

Android manufacturers around the world have constantly improved their chargers with support for faster speeds. These updates, in turn, have helped accommodate larger batteries.Apple, on the other hand, has not.

The iPhone 12 series could be shipped with a 20W charger

The Silicon Valley-based company shipped the original iPhone, which was introduced on stage by Steve Jobs in January 2007, with a compact 5W charger that was perfectly acceptable at the time. The problem is that Apple has since reused what is effectively the same power block every year since then. Of course, some improvements were made last year by shipping an 18W fast charger with the iPhone 11 Pro, but the standard iPhone 11 was still released with a 5W brick.

According to However, Apple could end one of its most controversial practices by shipping the entire 5G series iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro with a new 20W fast charge adapter.

The improvements in charging speeds are likely to be minimal compared to the 18W charger that shipped with the iPhone 11 Pro. However, it should be a massive boost over the 5W brick that comes with the iPhone 11.

The new power pack, shown above, will support the popular USB Power Delivery standard via the included USB-C port. It must also be accompanied by a USB-C to Lightning cable in the iPhone case.

Despite previous rumors, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are expected to retain the existing Lightning connector. Apple is now expected to bypass USB-C entirely on the iPhone and head straight for a portless deployment, something that could debut as soon as next year.

Apple can also remove EarPods from boxes

As reported last month and corroborated earlier this week, the new power adapter is not the only change that will hit iPhone cases later this year. Apple plans to completely ditch wired EarPods.

The latter has been a standard accessory for years, but the company led by Tim Cook now wants to focus on selling AirPods to buyers. Reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the decision to ditch EarPods should instantly increase demand for wireless headphones.

To make the most of the situation, Apple is understood to be working on an AirPods promotional campaign that will begin later in the year.

Details are unclear at this stage, but it could include anything from offering discounts to iPhone 12 buyers, creating iPhone and AirPods bundle packages, or introducing an AirPods upgrade program.

This move should maintain interest in existing second-generation AirPods in the months leading up to their replacement. Reports suggest that Apple plans to launch AirPods 3 in the first half of 2021 with an AirPods Pro-like design and internal updates.

Apple iPhone 12 announcement, price, features

These major changes should be made official in the fourth quarter of 2020, probably in late October. Apple tends to launch new iPhones in September, but COVID-19 delays have forced the company to delay things for at least a month.

For those of you who don’t know, the iPhone 12 series is expected to feature full OLED displays with smaller notches as standard. These must be combined with the new A14 Bionic chipset and 5G network connectivity.

The price should be as follows:

  • 5.4-inch iPhone 12 – $ 649
  • IPhone 12 6.1 inch Max – $ 749
  • 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro – $ 999
  • 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max – $ 1,099
