Leah Remini praised Thandie Newton after the actress spoke of being “scared” of Tom Cruise while filming “Mission: Impossible 2”.
“That requires big balls to do what he did, and if more people speak that way and are brave enough to do it, I think we could get somewhere,” Remini told Daily Beast while promoting his next podcast, “Scientology: Fair play.”
He added: “Tom has gotten away with being this ‘good guy’, because that is what Scientology policy says: create good public relations around the world and publicize those ‘good deeds.’ But if you really look at their actions, they are not consistent. “
Remini, who left Scientology after 30 years in 2013, went on to claim that he got into trouble when asked why Cruise, 58, was the “cartel boy” of the church.
“You can’t keep a close marriage, you’re jumping on couches, you’re acting like you know something about postpartum,” she said. “I learned pretty quickly that that’s not something you should be doing, because Tom Cruise is considered a messiah in Scientology.”
She continued: “This is a man who has not even seen his own daughter in years. That this guy may be running and that people think he’s a super nice guy, I don’t get it. But that’s the Hollywood-bulls-t game that people play. “
Remini was raised as a Scientologist since she was 9 years old after her mother joined the organization. She left after questioning the management style of the church leader, David Miscavige.
Two years later, he published a memoir titled “Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology”. The “King of Queens” star also had an A&E documentary series, titled “Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath,” which delved into the experiences of former Scientologists since leaving the group.
A representative for Cruise did not immediately respond to our request for comment.
