The HKFP news agency reported that Joshua Wong, 23, a Hong Kong democracy activist, was arrested on charges of unauthorized participation in the rally and for masking his face during the rally.

Joshua Wongtowit’s Twitter account read: “Joshua was arrested while reporting to the central police station around 1:00 pm today (September 24). At an unauthorized rally on October 5 last year, They told him that he also violated the prohibition law.

Joshua Wong’s lawyer said: “He was charged with participating in an illegal demonstration on October 5 last year. Hundreds of people marched against the government’s prohibition of masking law.

The incident comes after the Hong Kong government enacted an emergency law on October 4, 2019 to ban masks from protest rallies. As a result, thousands of Hong Kongers gathered the next day to protest against the law, including Joshua Wong.

Hong Kong police confirmed the arrest of two men, ages 23 and 74, on charges of illegal assembly on October 5.
