Kita Prasadini, director of public health in Andhra Pradesh, said the victim was a 45-year-old man, and blood samples were taken for further investigation to determine the cause of the disease.
Andhra Pradesh authorities said on December 7 that the cause of the outbreak was not yet known and that people of all ages were likely to become infected.
Including the Indian Ministry of Health said it will send a team of three medical experts to investigate the outbreak.
Authorities are currently inspecting 20 water sources in Eluru, where the first outbreak was reported, including nearby areas.
