2020 US election: how did Trump feel the day he found out he had lost?
By Tara McKelvey
BBC Correspondent at the White House
Four years ago I saw President Donald Trump in a good mood and in a bad mood.
But on November 7, the day he lost the election is different than what you’ve seen before.
Before 10 a.m., he left the White House. Put on a windproof jacket, dark pants, and a white hat labeled “Make America Great Again.” He spent the previous morning tweeting messages accusing him of voter fraud.
As he got into the car, he leaned forward a bit, as if trying to fight the wind. Before his trip to Trump National, his golf club, 25 miles from the White House.
At that moment, his attitude was full of confidence. It’s a good day Perfect for playing golf And you will spend the whole day on this golf course.
But those who work with him seem eager.
“How are you?” I asked the officials who worked for the president.
“I’m fine,” she replied, smiled but narrowed her eyes. Before looking at the phone
Later at 11:30 a.m., while Trump was on the golf course. The BBC and US television broadcasts have confirmed that Joe Biden won the election and will be the next national leader.
I was sitting in an Italian restaurant not far from the golf course when I heard the news. I am one of a small group of journalists authorized to hang out with the president. We were waiting when it would appear.
“He is toxic to those around him,” said a woman standing outside the restaurant. Of course, most of his neighbors in the area, who support Democrats, voted for Biden.
Some have begun to wonder, saying out loud when Trump will leave the golf course and return to the White House, and hours have passed.
Trump did not rush out of there. On this golf course I was surrounded by friends outside the fence, with supporters yelling at me and other journalists: “Stop funding the media!”
One woman wore high heels and a red, white and blue headband, holding a sign that read “Stop Stealing.[คะแนนเสียง]”
Another man was driving in front of the golf course, waving several flags. A part of Trump on a tank like he’s in command of the whole world. This reflects how he and the fan have looked at themselves over the past four years.
Finally he left. Returning to the White House
Thousands of critics rallied for him.
When we get to the White House Trump enters through the next door, an entrance rarely used by the president. He walked with his shoulders down and bowed his head.
He turned to us, a group of reporters, and raised his thumb. But it was an attitude that didn’t seem very emotional. Without raising my hand or shaking my fist like I do
Whether in the White House or on the golf course, Trump never doubted. He was accused of cheating in the elections without evidence and insisted that he would eventually receive justice.
On the morning of November 7, he tweeted about the vote. In the late afternoon, he defiantly declared that “I won the elections” (I WON THE ELECTIONS).
