Tesla CEO and controversial billionaire Elon Musk announced that his company has chosen southeast Travis County for its new “Gigafactory” that promises to hire thousands of workers and generate more than $ 1 billion in capital investments.
Musk said during a recent earnings call that the factory will be located minutes from downtown Austin and will be open to the public, CNBC reported. Located on more than 2,000 acres near the Colorado River, Musk said the site will be an “ecological paradise” with a boardwalk, hiking and biking trails.
Governor Greg Abbott said in a statement that the electric vehicle manufacturing plant will create at least 5,000 new jobs.
