Tesla Motors, Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) – Tesla’s Battery Invitation Opens Potential Indicators of What’s Coming

Tesla Inc’s (NASDAQ: TSLA) investor and battery day, which is expected to see breakthroughs in battery technology, is scheduled for Sept. 22. Tesla recently updated investors on the format of the event with a new link on the company’s website, with details about the day starting with an investor update, followed immediately by a presentation on advances in battery technology.

The background of the lead image used on the site gives hints as to what Tesla wants to present on it when it comes to battery updates. The image represents one type of carbon nanotube or silicon nanowire.

A company working on a similar technology, Amprius, explains that this technology has a much higher energy density than currently used batteries, which means that a lighter battery can hold even more charge. This can lead to cars with significant weight reduction while maintaining a similar range, or may even go beyond electric cars sold today.

Benzinga’s Take: If Tesla has this kind of technology ready for large-scale production, it will change the scene of electric cars overnight. The energy density of this technology could be so high, it could even turn on fully electric aircraft, which CEO Elon Musk has Talk about it in the past.

Whatever we see on battery day, it will surely be an exciting time for all electric cars.
