Tesla makes major strides in ‘Tera battery manufacturing facility’, drone video shows

A new drone video shows Tesla doing major construction work at its ‘Tera battery manufacturing facility’ in Fremont, California.

Earlier this year, Electrek exclusively unveiled Tesla’s secret “Roadrunner” project, which consists of its own designed battery cell system to produce production volume and reduce costs.

In June, Tesla recognized the project when it sought approval to build a second floor at its “Tera Battery Manufacturing Factory” that hosts the Roadrunner project in Fremont.

The Tera battery manufacturing facility is home to Tesla’s pilot battery production line of products made from new machines developed in-house.

Tesla never confirmed the planned production of the battery manufacturing system, but it is expected to be somewhat significant, given the company plans to operate the production line 24/7 with four shifts of up to 100 workers.

Last month, we reported on Tesla starting to hire production partners for the battery production line.

Now a new drone flyover from the facility at Tesla’s Fremont plant shows some important construction work on the site:

In June, Tesla requested to expand the space at the facility with a new mezzanine and now the drone video shows an expansion of several stories on the roof.

Currently, Tesla also requested to increase on-site operating electricity consumption to nearly 92,800 MWh / yr, an increase of about 72,800 MWhr / yr.

The automaker will hold its ‘Battery Day’ at the facility where it will announce its plan to expand battery supply.

Earlier today, we reported on how Tesla pledged nanowire technology in its announcement on Battery Day.
