Syracuse wants Cuomo to clarify if fans can attend games at Carrier Dome

Syracuse, NY – Syracuse University wants clarification from Governor Andrew Cuomo on whether fans will be able to attend the games at Carrier Dome this fall.

The state’s decision to ban viewers from attending college games has raised questions about how long the ban will be in effect and whether schools can continue to plan to host a reduced-capacity crowd at a later date.

“The health and safety of our student athletes, our fans, our college community and the broader community of central New York is our top priority,” Syracuse Athletic Director John Wildhack said in a statement Tuesday by the night.

“We appreciate and support Governor Cuomo’s continued commitment and continued efforts to keep our communities safe. We will seek further clarification on the opportunity to have fans in our games and move forward properly under the guidance of the state. ”

Cuomo’s “non-fanatic” decision is a more drastic measure than other regions of the country. Texas will reduce its seating capacity to 50%, which would mean that around 50,000 fans can attend a Texas soccer game this fall. Illinois will operate at 20% of capacity, in accordance with its state guidance.

Syracuse has planned to accommodate some soccer fans coming to the Carrier Dome this fall, modeling seating plans ranging from 25% to 50% capacity.

Wildhack has said that priority will be given to season ticket holders, premium seat holders and student season ticket holders.
