Symptoms of Coronavirus are referred to by the NHS as a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, and a loss or change in your sense of smell or taste. But the list of symptoms does not end there.

The COVID-19 is also linked to other symptoms – some of which you might not expect.

Unusual symptoms of coronavirus are reported by the Mayo Clinic, including eye problems, confusion, and gastrointestinal symptoms.

Eye problems

The COVID-19 virus can cause eye problems such as enlarged, red blood vessels, swollen eyelids, excessive watering and increased discharge, the clinic warns.

It adds: “The infection can also cause mild sensitivity and irritation.

“These symptoms are more common in people with severe infections.”

It advises: “COVID-19 has also been reported to cause confusion in older people, especially those with severe infections.”

Gastrointestinal symptoms

Gastrointestinal symptoms affect the gastrointestinal tract – the tract from the mouth to the anus, including all the organs of the digestive system.

The clinic states: “COVID-19 can cause mild gastrointestinal symptoms, including loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

“These symptoms can only last for one day.

“Some people with COVID-19 have diarrhea and nausea before they develop fever and respiratory symptoms.”

Other symptoms of coronavirus to look out for

While the NHS lists only three main symptoms of coronavirus, the World Health Organization (WHO) offers a more comprehensive list.

Serious symptoms are referred to as:

  • Difficulty breathing as well as shortness of breath
  • Chest pain as pressure
  • Loss of speech as movement

The NHS says that if you have any of the main symptoms, it lists:
