After two fatal accidents on the Schlyfi curve, the city of Zurich reacts. With mats, arranged by the mayor of St. Moritz.
On the outskirts of Zurich, it has recently felt a bit like on the ski slopes: on Witikonerstrasse, all the electricity towers of the VBZ buses and the streetlights on the outer edge of the Schlyfi curve are covered with orange foam mats. In the middle is a yellow ribbon on orange posts. The trigger for these measures were two fatal bicycle accidents that had occurred at this point last year, “20 minutes” reported.
The first accident happened in spring. As announced by the Zurich city police at the time, a man drove down the street into the city on April 8, where things are going downhill fast. In the Schlyfi area he fell and collided with a flashlight on the right side of the road. The man died at the scene of the accident. The second fatal accident occurred a few months later. A 62-year-old cyclist was on the same road in the same direction on September 14. He also fell in the Schlyfi area and suffered fatal injuries. Another fatal bicycle accident occurred on Witikonerstrasse in mid-November, but it occurred in the area above the Loorenstrasse level.
