After a week break, EV Zug is back in the lead. The Zugers defeated the ZSC Lions twice in 24 hours: 6: 3 on the road was followed by 8: 2 at home.
But while for the first time in a week in the National League almost a full program could be held, much revolved around the authorities in professional ice hockey on Friday. Switzerland has been cut in half: in the west, a maximum of 1000 spectators can enter theaters from this weekend, in some cantons (such as Bern) none. SC Bern last played home fans in a 6-0 win over Biel. In eastern and southern Switzerland, however, two-thirds of the seats may be occupied at the moment.
In spring, the National League and the Swiss League broke the championship when the ghost games threatened. These discussions will resurface in the coming days and weeks. The amateur ice hockey championship was interrupted on Friday.
There are also some problems with the pros. Lugano and Freiburg are no longer under quarantine, but in light of the growing number of cases, the next coronavirus cases in the National League are only a matter of time. In the Swiss League, half of all games have been postponed until the end of October due to quarantine orders.
What was in the ice? ZSC goalkeeper Ludovic Waeber’s fairytale start to the season lost its glamor these weeks: After conceding five goals on Thursday, Waeber allowed six of the first twelve shots and a total of eight shots on goal came on Friday. Lugano came back from quarantine with a 4-3 home win after extra time over Davos, with Joe Thornton contributing a first goal for Davos. Davos had only equaled 3: 3 2.1 seconds before the end.
Bern with a successful farewell to the fans
SC Bern left nothing to burn in the last home game with (1000) spectators with a 6-0 win against Biel. The Bernese scored four goals in eleven minutes in the second stage. Goals were not scored by typical scorers: Jeremi Gerber (2-0) and Gregory Sciaroni (6-0) scored for the first time this season; Inti Pestoni (1-0), Mika Henauer (3-0) and Tristan Scherwey (4-0) each scored their second goal. Swede Ted Brithén scored his third goal in a week and Canadian Dustin Jeffrey was on the ice four of the five goals.
And Biel? With the Zeelanders, coach Lars Leuenberger was unable to return to Geneva. The Bieler has to rethink his defensive game: since the 6-0 victory over Lausanne, the EHCB conceded at least four goals in every game.
Lausanne defeated Ambri again
The Lausanne Hockey Club also won their third home game 3-2 against Ambri-Piotta in front of 4,341 spectators. Lausanne had already won 3-2 against Leventines on Tuesday, then away and only after extra time. On Tuesday Denis Malgin scored two and Christoph Bertschy scored one goal. Three days later they did it the other way around: Malgin put Lausanne ahead in the 32nd minute, Bertschy secured the victory with two goals.
Thanks to the success in the table, the Lausanne team improved to second place. Like EV Zug, Lausanne scored 17 points in the first three weeks; the Vaudois, however, needed one more game.
In Lausanne this time Tobias Stephan (30 saves) protected the goal, allowing only two goals against in the final 134 minutes. With him at the helm of the area, Lausanne also celebrated its most valuable victory to date: the 3-0 win in Zug a week ago.
