In FCB it is burning! There was a big clash between the bosses and the first team. On behalf of the team, the players’ council rejected an initial suggestion from club management to temporarily forego 17.5 percent of annual wages. This exemption would have corresponded to a salary reduction of 70 percent in April, May and June 2020.
The team’s counterproposal, as BLICK revealed: an exemption of just 5 percent during the three months mentioned, that is, 1.25 percent a year. FC Basel does not want to comment officially on this.
However, players do it anyway! Captain Valentin Stocker, Fabian Frei, Taulant Xhaka, Jonas Omlin, Silvan Widmer and company published the same letter on social media commenting on the situation. They do not dispute the counterproposal that they only offered the club a 1.25 percent annual salary exemption. For this, they deny an accusation (“the team is not ready to pay part of their salary, it does not correspond to the truth”), which was never in the room.
The statement in the editorial office:
“Due to the large amount of information currently circulating in the media, we, the entire FC Basel 1893 first team, are forced to correct some things.
The accusation that the team is not ready to pay part of his salary is not true.
All of the first-team players donated at least 20 percent of their salaries to charities last month, with the intention of using this money where it’s needed most because of the crown problem.
All first-team players are prepared to give up part of their salary in the coming months when there are no games, provided they know where the money is going and what it will be used for.
However, no player on the 1st team, other than this announcement, will make a public statement.
We thank all the fans who support us every weekend in the stadium or at home and we wish them all good health.
