The ZH 499 plate is auctioned by the Canton of Zurich Road Traffic Office, the lowest car number in the auction’s 25-year history to date. A maximum offer of more than 50,000 francs is expected.
The auction of ZH 499 runs from tomorrow, Thursday until December 2, as announced by the road traffic office on Wednesday. The deepest license plates that have been auctioned so far are ZH 505, ZH 555 and ZH 705.
The state treasury makes millions from auctions
The Road Traffic Office has been auctioning particularly attractive license plates since 1995. Only in the middle of the year the number of posters auctioned increased to 33 per week due to the popularity of the auction.
The auctions are worthwhile for the treasury: in the last two years, the Road Traffic Office has raised around 3.5 million francs each. All proceeds flow to the General Treasury of the Canton of Zurich. (SDA)
