Borussia defeated Schalke 4-1 in the Bundesliga afternoon game. Denis Zakaria is back in Gladbach’s starting XI for the first time in 8 months.

For Schalke it is getting bitter. Gelsenkirchen’s side went 1: 4 winless against Gladbach in the Bundesliga for the 25th time in a row. This means that Schalke is “missing” 6 more winless games to set Tasmania Berlin’s all-time record since the 1965/66 season.

Schalke’s joy only lasts for a short time

Technician Manuel Baum’s team started the compromised match. After an unfortunate goal conceded in the 15th minute, Schalke leveled just 5 minutes later after a well-played goal by Benito Raman. But the euphoria was stifled before the break when Oscar Wendt Gladbach took the lead again.

After the break, the resistance of the guests was limited. Marcus Thuram made the preliminary decision at 3-1 in the 52nd minute. In the finals, Hannes Wolf even scored the fourth goal for the Colts.

Swiss trio in the starting eleven, Elvedi saved

Three Swiss experienced Gladbach’s fourth win of the season up close. In addition to goalkeeper Yann Sommer and forward Breel Embolo, Denis Zakaria was also in the starting lineup for the first time since March 7. The Swiss midfielder had recently made two appearances following his serious knee injury.

Both Zakaria and Embolo changed after just over an hour. Nico Elvedi was not used. The central defender received a break from coach Marco Rose.
