Police were alerted on Saturday afternoon because an Aaresurfer was in danger on the Jaberg Bridge in Kiesen, as the Bern canton police announced on Sunday.

According to initial findings, the man and one other person had been navigating the Aare when the victim suddenly called for help. Despite immediate rescue measures by the companion, he disappeared into the water.

Rescuers and bystanders who helped were able to rescue the surfer from the water near Münsingen. He was immediately resuscitated and later taken to hospital in critical condition by ambulance. Later he died there.
