The Young Boys win their permanent rivals’ first season duel 2-1 against FC Basel in Bern. Forward Meschack Elia scored the winning goal in the 61st minute.
The goal sequence (0: 1, 1: 1, 2: 1) was the same as in the cup final on August 30. Following Elia’s goal, who wandered away on a short pass from Jean-Pierre Nsame, overpowered a defender and found himself unsustainable in the far corner, the Young Boys dominated the action until the end. Nsame marks the beginning of the turning point
The Bernese’s first goal shortly before the break was even a curiosity. Goalkeeper David von Ballmoos tried to stimulate the game from far from the penalty area. With the ball high down, he controlled Basel’s defense. Jean-Pierre Nsame ran a few steps with the ball on target and defeated goalkeeper Heinz Lindner, who was replacing Djordje Nikolic in quarantine, with an unsustainable low shot.
