As the only Swiss team left in the 2020/21 European Soccer Cup, the Young Boys will face teams from Italy, Romania and Bulgaria in the Europa League.
The Young Boys did not receive easy luck on the occasion of the draw for the Europa League group stage. The Swiss champions meet in Group A against AS Roma, Romanian champion Cluj and CSKA Sofia, conqueror of Basel. With a 3-1 victory in Basel on Thursday night, the Bulgarians were responsible for ensuring the European Cup competitions this season with YB as the sole Swiss representative.

After the 2019/20 season ended as planned on August 21, the biggest change to the 2020/21 schedule is that qualifying will take place later. Instead of June 25, qualifying began on August 18. The group stage draw will take place on October 2 in Nyon; the first day of play is October 22. The dates of the knockout rounds remain unchanged.
The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will not be used in the group stage as intended, but will be used in the knockout round. From 2021/22, the VAR will also be used in the group stage.
