The Swiss freeskier wins at the start of the X Games in Aspen in Big Air Gold. She secures victory thanks to a world first.
A Double Cork 1440: a double somersault variant with 4 revolutions around the axis of your own body. That was the jump with which Mathilde Gremaud secured the gold medal on Friday night in the grand freeskier aerial final at the prestigious X Games.
In his first attempt to show the trick, Gremaud fell violently. But on the second try, the Freiburg woman jumped perfectly into the snow, like the first woman in history. In the end, she got her 91.00 points and thus the victory over Canadians Megan Oldham and Eileen Gu of China. It’s already the third X Games gold in Big Air for the 20-year-old Swiss woman.
Höfflin also falls
While the X Games raced prematurely for Giulia Tanno after her broken upper arm in training, the competition for third-place Swiss Sarah Höfflin was also painful. The Olympic Slopestyle champion left the finish area after a fall on her last attempt with tears, but at least on her own two feet.
