Spokesman Martin Steltner said the incident was attributed to the organized crime scene. The spokesman for the prosecution made it clear whether criminal members of clan families were involved.
Police and the prosecutor said the background was still unclear. According to the current state of knowledge, residents alerted the police that they had heard the gunshots on Stresemannstrasse in the immediate vicinity of the SPD party headquarters.
The emergency services found three injured. A fourth injured man jumped into the nearby Landwehr Canal, from where rescuers pulled him out. Several dozen police officers, some of them heavily armed, were on duty at the scene of the incident on Saturday morning before dawn. Barrier tapes were pulled and footprints secured. A helicopter also flew over the capital in search of people involved. Two of the injured are 30 years old, another 39 and the fourth 42 years old.
Investigation into attempted murder
Police and prosecutors jointly launched investigations into the attempted murder of several suspects. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, these are people who belonged to the group of four injured. There was initially no further information on Sunday. “This is a difficult story,” spokesman Steltner said.
According to the police, SEK officers were also at the scene on Saturday afternoon. Special forces entered a building with weapons at the ready and searched an apartment, according to a photographer for the German press agency.
Apparently the crime scene is at a front door. At Stresemannstrasse 23, opposite the SPD party headquarters, a bullet hole could be seen in a door, as reported by the dpa photographer, not far from another bullet hole in a glass door.

A spokesman for the Berlin fire brigade said on Saturday that an emergency call was received at 3.54 am due to the shooting in Kreuzberg. The fire brigade was on the scene with a large number, several ambulances, three emergency physicians and a senior emergency physician. The mission ended early in the morning. Unlike the police, who spent hours investigating the crime scene all Saturday.
In Berlin there are always disputes in the area of organized crime, in which it is said that members of the criminal clan have been repeatedly involved. More recently, about 10 men attacked a ground-floor apartment and car in Kreuzberg after a 29-year-old was shot.
In February, a shooting at Berlin’s Tempodrom on Möckernstrasse, not far from the current crime scene, caused a sensation with one dead and four injured. The police were on duty with a large contingent, including homicide. An arrest warrant for involuntary manslaughter was issued against a 48-year-old man who is said to have shot a 42-year-old man and was seriously injured in the conflict. (sda / dpa)
