- FIFA has filed a criminal complaint against former President Sepp Blatter for financing his loss-making football museum in Zurich.
- In addition to Blatter, other former representatives of associations were also reported to the Zurich prosecutor’s office responsible for economic crimes.
- According to a statement from FIFA, there is a suspicion of “criminal mismanagement by the former management of FIFA and the companies commissioned by it”.
The criminal complaint targets the total cost of the project of CHF 500 million. The previous administration invested 140 million in the renovation and modernization of a building that did not even belong to FIFA. In addition, a lease has been concluded that will cost FIFA around 360 million francs by the time the contract expires in 2045.
“In view of the enormous costs of this museum and the general functioning of the former FIFA administration, a forensic examination should shed light on what actually happened,” said FIFA Deputy Secretary General Alasdair Bell in the statement. .
The “Haus zur Enge” offers an area of 3000 square meters on ten floors for exhibitions, events and gastronomy. The project also includes 34 apartments and offices for 140 people.
The FIFA Museum in Zurich Seestrasse opened in 2016, after the end of the Blatters term, now 84, who had announced his resignation the previous year.
The Zurich prosecutor’s office confirmed receipt of the claim at the FIFA Museum. Now the ad will be checked. “The allegations are unfounded and vehemently rejected,” said Blatters’ attorney, Lorenz Erni.
